Sub-accounts and users
A Waygo account holds maps, content catalogs, links and kiosks. A sub-account is a separate account owned by yours: its own maps and catalogs, its own users, one bill. Agencies use one sub-account per client, venues one per event or per tenant, companies one per site.
Create a sub-account
Open Sub-accounts
In the sidebar choose Sub-accounts, then Create sub-account.
Name it
Give it the client's or event's name. It gets its own account ID.
Switch into it
Use the account switcher at the top left of the sidebar. Everything you then see, maps, catalogs, links, kiosks and usage, belongs to that sub-account. Your Waygo team creates the sub-account's maps the same way as yours.
Your own users can work in every sub-account you own. Users invited into a sub-account only see that sub-account; that is how you give a client or an exhibitor-services team access to exactly their maps.
Roles
Every user has one or more roles on an account. Ask your Waygo team to add users to an account or a sub-account with the role they need.
| Role | Can |
|---|---|
| Owner | Everything, including deleting the account and revoking API keys. Owners receive the account's emails (for example the notice that a map license ends soon). |
| Admin | Everything an Owner can except deleting the account. |
| Editor | Edit maps, content catalogs, links and kiosks; create sub-accounts and API keys. Cannot delete users or revoke API keys. |
| Viewer | Read only. |
Some things on a map are done by Waygo for every account, whatever the role: creating and deleting maps, building floor plans, walking paths, the map style, the license and the publish allowance. The map page shows them as facts.
API access
API keys are created per account and work for that account and, with the Waygo-Account header, for any of its sub-accounts. See Authentication and Accounts and sub-accounts in the API reference.
Frequently asked questions
- What is a Waygo sub-account?
- A separate account owned by yours, with its own maps, content catalogs, links, kiosks and users, billed with your account. Use one per client, event, tenant or site.
- Can I give a client access to only their map?
- Yes. Put the map in a sub-account and have the client's users added to that sub-account. They see only its maps and catalogs.
- What is the difference between Owner, Admin, Editor and Viewer?
- Owners can do everything including deleting the account; Admins everything except that; Editors edit maps, content, links and kiosks; Viewers only read.
- How do I add a user to my Waygo account?
- Ask your Waygo team, giving the user's email and role. Developers can also add users with the Accounts API.
